Paul Shipper is an award-winning Movie Poster Artist and Illustrator best known for producing key art for film and his work in entertainment and advertising art.
Born in Manchester, his formal education ended in 1997 with a BA in illustration and Animation from MMU. Paul has gone on to create illustrative key art for movie posters, home entertainment, books, comics, magazines, events and licensing work for clients such as Amazon, CBS, Disney, Foo Fighters, ITV, Lucasfilm, Marvel, Muse, Netflix, Nike, Penguin Books, Sky TV, Universal and Warner Bros.
Inspired from a young age by the one sheets in the cinema lobby and the posters on his bedroom wall, Paul fell in love with the craft and beauty of the illustrated film poster. Since the mid-to-late 90's he has been devoted to creating art that embodies that very aesthetic, on a self proclaimed mission to bring the beloved 'old school' illustrated movie posters he grew up with back to the cinema... and beyond
While remaining constant to his 'retro' vision, the artwork he creates has a modern appeal which is beneficial to his growing client base. Embracing digital painting with a traditional art background is just one example of Paul’s ability to utilise the latest tools and delivery methods while staying true to the traditional style he holds so close to his heart.
Paul feels incredibly fortunate to have had his work appreciated and praised by some fine members of the film industry, including J.J. Abrams, Frank Darabont, Bob Gale, Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, Duncan Jones, Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski's.
Paul has been publicly recognised for his work and awarded a prestigious Key Art Award in 2014 and an LCS Award for excellence in Illustration in 2015. In 2017, he became an honorary member of the 501st Legion and UK Garrison in recognition of his contribution to Star Wars through his art. In 2019 Paul became the first living Illustrator to be featured in ‘Illustration Magazine’ issue #66. In 2020 he became the first artist to create cover art for Empire Magazine’s newsstand issue and was also appointed as one of the very first Visual Contributing Editors of Empire Magazine that same year.
Original art and prints of his work have been displayed in galleries in around the world.

“Paul, thank YOU for such amazing work! You’ve done the franchise proud!”
“Let me give a machiavellian testimonial here. Paul produces art so enticing, it puts bums on seats. Maybe we should have used HIS poster instead of that other one, eh, unnamed studio?”
“Paul is a pleasure to work with and a consumate professional- but by far what speaks most to his tremendous ability as an artist is his beautiful and incredible work. He’s a rare and impressive talent.”
“Great work on the new SQUIRM cover art, a spot on retro comic book take, it’s a perfect compliment to the movie inside!”
“His ability to capture the likenesses of the characters he illustrates, and a timeless, nostalgic feel that instantly transports viewers to the worlds he portrays is what separates Paul from all other illustrators I work with.”
“In the words of William Shakespeare, oh my f*cking giddy god!”
“For almost 50 years, Star Trek has been celebrated in various ways by those who love and have been inspired by its stories. Paul Shipper’s new art piece, “Gene’s Dream” is a personally-appreciated example of such inspiration.”
